For this, he was arrested and sent to judicial custody and sent to Kovilpatti jail on 21 June, but a day later under suspicious circumstances P Jayaraj died on 22 June and the next day his son Phenex died on 23 June Has gone. Family members allege that both were beaten up badly by the police personnel at the Satkulam police station and they died due to this. The relatives have demanded registration of a case of murder against two sub-inspectors responsible for the murder.

The incident caused chaos in the state and four policemen including two sub-inspectors have been suspended. Meanwhile, AIADMK and DMK have also announced assistance of Rs 25 lakh each to the families of P Jayaraj and J Phenix.
